IDF Produces New Civilian Protection

The IDF’s Homefront Command’s Fortification Department recently completed tests on two new products, the “protective bed” and the “protective cabinet,” which are both able to protect civilians from rocket fire.

According to the IDF website, the protective bed looks like and functions like a normal bed, but can be opened into a “kind of protective canopy.” The website explained that the “solution offers alternative, inexpensive, and accessible protection for people who are unable to build a protected space in their apartments.”

Similar to the protective bed is the protective cabinet, which functions as storage that can be converted into a protective shelter during times of emergency.

The new products were tested six months ago in an experiment that simulated a missile explosion 30 meters away form the bed and cabinet. While the initial explosion caused external damage to the pieces, the objects stored inside were left unharmed from the explosion and shrapnel.
