The IDF has decided that the Independence Day naval display will not take place this year, and that the IDF bases will not be made into "IDF parking lots" throughout the country, in spite of the tradition that has been taking place for many years.

The decision was made in light of the budgetary cuts and the defense constraints stemming from the changes in the strategic reality in the Middle East.

The IDF Spokesperson clarified that the IAF's annual aerial demonstration will take place as usual, and that visits will be allowed in specific "open bases” in the Air Force. In addition to the Air Force, the Navy will participate in activities carried out by the municipality of Eilat.

The IDF website states, "The IDF views the preservation of contact with the citizens of Israel to be of great significance, and will continue to do so in a variety of channels throughout the year. The fulfillment of the naval display and presentations at IDF parking lots will be considered in the coming years, according to all the circumstances."
